Running to Lose Fat? Stop Wasting Your Time
If Running Was the Key to Fat Loss, Marathon Runners Would Be Shredded
But they’re not 🤷♂️
Go look at the elite distance runners
Do they look like the physique you’re after? Or do they look skinny-fat, depleted, and holding onto stubborn fat despite clocking 100km+ per week?
Because running doesn’t make you lean.
It just makes you smaller
Yet every year, millions of people make the same mistake:
👉 They want to drop body fat
👉 They lace up their old Nike Pegasus
👉 They go for a run
👉 They suffer for 20 mins, then go eat more from being so hungry
👉 They wonder why the scale isn’t moving
If that’s been you… it’s not your fault
You’ve been sold a lie
Running Isn’t Bad, But It’s Not a Fat Loss Tool
Look, I don’t hate running
I run myself. I’ve done races, half-marathons, and all that
But I run because I enjoy it, not because I think it’s the best way to drop body fat
The issue? People treat running like a golden ticket to weight loss
Here’s why it doesn’t work:
❌ It burns fewer calories than you think
That 5K jog? Maybe 250 calories burned. That’s a protein bar
❌ It makes you hungrier
More movement = more appetite. You’ll eat back the calories without even realising
❌ It spikes stress & fatigue
Your body gets inflamed, your joints take a beating, and guess what? You feel exhausted… so you move less for the rest of the day
❌ It has a terrible return on investment
Want to burn the same calories as a 30-minute run? Walk 10K steps. Way less joint stress, way more sustainable
So, What Should You Do Instead?
If you actually want to drop fat, forget the “run your weight off” approach
Here’s a better plan:
🏋🏻♂️ Prioritise resistance training
Muscle mass increases your resting metabolic rate. More muscle, more calories burned daily.
🚶 Get your steps in
NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) is king. Your steps and general movement burn more over the course of a day than 30 minutes of running
🍗 Sort your nutrition out
Fat loss happens in the kitchen, not on the treadmill. Track your food, hit your protein, and create a calorie deficit
⚖️ Be consistent
One week of running won’t get you shredded. One week of nailing your calorie intake, protein, strength training, and steps? That will
The Bottom Line
Run because you want to, not because you think you have to
If you actually want to lose fat properly (without burning out, without smashing your joints, and without ending up back where you started) that’s exactly what I coach people through

P.S. You don’t need another “fat loss hack,” another bullshit crash diet, or another 6-week running plan. You need a sustainable system that actually works. That’s exactly what I show you in my free 6-week training plan
