Why I’ve Quit Bodybuilding
Sort of...
Ey up,
I’ve quit bodybuilding. Kind of.
I’ve officially joined the dark side.
Not the PEDs kind. The movement kind 🥷
After years of training purely for aesthetics (every session to failure, all machine work, all hypertrophy) I’ve finally admitted to myself what many of you probably already knew:
I move like shit 💩
I’m slow to speed up
Slower to slow down
Terrified of jumping
Terrified of landing
Stiff as a board with the injury risk of a Jenga tower 🫠
It’s not that muscle doesn’t matter.
It’s just that only training for muscle left me with the agility of a HGV.
So now, I’m working with a coach to inject some athleticism, mobility, and explosiveness back into my training 💪
You can’t just train to look good in photos
Well, I mean you can, but here’s why you shouldn’t.
That’s the bare minimum. Real training? It should actually make you useful. Capable. Athletic 🏃
You don’t have to be doing backflips or training for the Olympics, but if you’ve spent years getting stronger without getting more agile, you’re just walking around with fancy armour you don’t know how to use.
Agility, coordination, explosiveness, balance, mobility — they matter.
They’re what let you:
Sprint without tearing something
Jump without fear of landing
Change direction without folding like a deck chair
Actually play sport or move in real life without pain
Muscle helps 🤝
But movement keeps you in the game 🙌
I’m not binning aesthetics
I’m just not letting it be the only focus.
I’ve built the muscle. I’ve got the shape. That stays.
But I’m done letting my training make me feel like I’m made of wood 😅
Cheers,
Sheep
P.S.
If your training's left you stiff, slow, and constantly flirting with injury, it's time to change things 💪
My coaching isn’t just about getting lean or building muscle (although you’ll do that too).
It’s about training in a way that actually serves your life, so you move better, feel better, and don’t pull a hamstring every time you try to sprint.
