The lochness monster vs the keto diet. FIGHT

They’ve been wrong for years, and people STILL believe them

Ello 👋

Some things in fitness are annoyingly hard to kill off.

No matter how many times they get disproven, they just keep crawling back — like someone who “accidentally” likes your story two months after ghosting you.

So let’s go through some of the biggest myths still floating around gyms, Instagram, and WhatsApp group chats…

And shut them down. Properly.

❌ “You need to sweat to burn fat”

Wrong. You sweat when your body tries to cool down, not when it burns calories.

You could sit in a sauna and sweat buckets, but that doesn’t mean you’ve just torched body fat.

That’s just water loss I’m afraid 🤷‍♂️

Sweating ≠ fat burning. Fat burning = being in a calorie deficit.

❌ “Carbs make you fat”

No. Overeating makes you fat.

Carbs are your body's preferred energy source. They fuel your workouts, support recovery, and actually help with sleep and mood.

If you’re gaining weight, it's because you're eating too many calories, not because you had a jacket potato.

❌ “Toning” is a separate training style

There’s. no. such. thing. as. “toning.”

You’re either building muscle or losing fat (or both).

Lighter weights with higher reps don’t “tone” your muscles. They just give you a pump for 10 minutes and let you tell yourself you trained.

Want definition? Build the muscle and drop the fat.

❌ “You have to eat ‘clean’ to see results”

What does clean eating even mean?!

There’s no such thing as dirty eating, unless you’re not washing your veg.

Eating healthy is great. But so is enjoying your food and not losing your mind.

You can lose fat while eating chocolate 🍫

You can build muscle while eating pizza 🍕

You just need to do it within your calories, hit your protein, and not eat like a dickhead 7 days a week 🤷‍♂️

❌ “Lifting weights makes women bulky”

Nope. Hormones make people bulky.

Women do not have the testosterone levels to build muscle like men unless they’re actively trying to.

If you’ve seen someone who’s genuinely “bulky,” you can guarantee it didn’t happen by accident.

Lifting weights will make you leaner, stronger, healthier. NOT turn you into the Hulk.

me everytime I hear one of these bullsh*t myths

❌ “I’m not losing weight because I’m in starvation mode”

You’re not.

You’re just underestimating what you eat and overestimating what you burn.

If you were truly in “starvation mode,” you’d be losing weight fast.

Your body isn’t holding on to fat to save your life because you had a protein bar and two iced coffees yesterday.

The truth isn’t sexy. But it works.

Most of the time, fitness is actually pretty simple:

✅ Eat in a moderate deficit if you want to lose fat

✅ Train hard and progressively

✅ Sleep properly

✅ Eat mostly whole foods

✅ Don’t expect shortcuts

It’s not as exciting as some influencer trying to sell you a skinny tea or a fad diet, but it actually works.

Cheers,

P.S.
If any of these myths have been floating around your head for months (or years), I can unpick them and build you a routine that’s based on facts, not gym bro fiction.
