I thought I was flying business class last week...
I tend to attract disorder
I flew to sydney last wednesday.
Cost me £450 one way, insurance included, 1 × 2-hour layover, 7 hours from London to Dubai, 13.5 hours from Dubai to Sydney. Bargain.
So the title of the e-mail…?
I’m used to shit going wrong.
I’ve missed more than 10 flights in my life, I’ve been rejected to board 2 of them, I’ve had to pay off immigration officers to let me in the country, 15 hour + delays, I’ve had to bin luggage on the spot, and I’ve had to charm my way into 3 separate countries illegally..
But on Wednesday we got there 3 hours early, queues were short, no flight delays, our baggage was EXACTLY 30kgs, our visas were fine, the stopover gave us just enough time to get to our gate and grab a snack, AND…
The films on the plane were great (oppenheimer, every fast n furious film, interstellar, and inception) and the food was phenomenal.
The staff even gave me extra food every time i asked and did everything with a smile.
As a guy who flies with Ryanair most of the time and using really dodgy foreign airlines to do longhaul, flying economoy with etihad might as well have been business class…
(I did a 14 hour flight with scoot airlines once, no food, no drink, no screens, nothing for the entire flight, on a plane that was not designed for tall people).
There’s no lesson to take from this. Nothing informative. No real value.
But maybe sometimes, it’s good to have your standards lowered. A little reality check, a dopamine detox, a reset on things.
Because once you do return back to those same standards, they’ll feel SO GOOD.
Coffee drinkers, i am 1000% looking at you (me).
