Ello,
If you sleep 8 hours…
Then sit on your arse for another 8 hours…..
That’s 16 hours of your day spent doing absolutely fuck all movement-wise.
Then you get into the gym and expect your hips, knees, shoulders, and back to just magically be ready to press, squat, or deadlift heavy with zero warm-up.
Nah. Not happening.
And if you’re like most people, once you're home from work or the gym, you’ll be sitting on your arse in front of the TV until you go to bed 😬
(If that’s not you, then congrats, you’re part of the few, BUT you could probably still benefit from this newsletter 👇 )
Sorry to break it to you mate, but you’re not 18 anymore. Your joints aren’t bulletproof, and your ligaments aren’t elastic bands.
Your body isn’t broken. You’re just not using it.
Our joints are stiffer. Tendons and ligaments aren’t as stretchy.
If you spend 99% of your day in one position, you can’t expect to move well in any other position without some prep.
The problem isn’t age.
It’s a lack of movement 🤸
The solution = “movement snacks”
No, not an actual snack.
Movement snacks = short bursts of movement sprinkled through your day to keep your body from turning into a desk-shaped statue.
10 bodyweight squats while the kettle boils
20 seconds hanging from a pull-up bar between calls
A quick walk at lunch instead of eating at your desk
Hip openers while you’re watching TV
None of this replaces your training.
It just means your training doesn’t feel like you’re trying to loosen concrete before every set 🙌
Why it works
You’re basically sending little “wake up” signals to your joints and muscles throughout the day.
So instead of spending the first 20 minutes of your workout just getting your body to stop feeling like the Tin Man, you’re ready to go.
Plus, your posture, mobility, and energy will thank you for it.
The bottom line is that to improve your joint flexibility, you just stop being completely sedentary for 23 hours of your day.
Cheers,
Sheep
