Battling Willpower Is Pointless
Your Brain Was Built to Fail—Here’s Why
Ello,
This week’s Ted Talk is about willpower
Fighting willpower is a losing game, and you’re the idiot for thinking you can beat it
I had a chat recently with a single mum who was beating herself up over not being able to resist snacks
Too often people ask themselves “Why can’t I just say no to the [insert your personal high-calorie food weakness of choice]?” 🍫🍕🍺
Well, it’s because your brain is hardwired to be fat
Now before you take that the wrong way, let me explain…
Back in the caveman days, food was scarce. If you stumbled across something calorie-dense, you ate every last bite like your life depended on it—because it did
Your brain was wired to stockpile calories
Fast forward to today, and that same brain is now dealing with snack cupboards, Uber Eats, and fast-food drive-thrus 🍟
It doesn’t stand a chance
Willpower Is a Bullshit Plan
If you’re trying to resist these foods on willpower alone, you’re going to fail
You’re not losing because you’re lazy or weak. You’re losing because you’re human
Relying on willpower is like walking into a casino thinking you’re going to beat the house... The system isn’t built for you to win
Modern food is engineered to be irresistible. It’s calorie-dense, cheap, and everywhere
So, if your entire plan is to “just say no,” good luck with that mate
Stop Playing a Rigged Game
Want to win? Stop fighting a battle you’re literally programmed to lose
🛒 Don't buy crap AND don't go to the supermarket hungry. The best way to resist temptation? Don’t have it in your house
🗓️ Plan Your Meals. Why would you buy a takeaway if you've already made tonight's dinner?
🍎 Control Your Environment. Keep snacks out of reach. Make the healthy options the easy options
The Modern World Is Screwing You
Look, food has evolved faster than your brain ever could. That’s why obesity rates are skyrocketing
Your instincts haven’t caught up with the reality of supermarkets, fast food, and 24/7 delivery
Tbh, I doubt our brains ever will catch up, we were never meant to live in a world with so much convenience 🧠
You don’t Need to Give Up What You Love
Let me be clear: your favourite foods don’t have to go anywhere
The key? Balance
I structure my diet to include the foods I love—pizza, chocolate, even the occasional greasy takeaway. Why? Because if I didn’t, I’d hate every second of my plan, and I’d give up
Here’s just some of the scran I’ve enjoyed recently because I’ve worked it into my plan 👇️

You don’t need an all-or-nothing mindset. You can make real progress without cutting out your favourite meals. And when you do that, guess what? You stick to the plan because it doesn’t feel like punishment
This is why so many people fail—they make their diets miserable. They cut out carbs, or ice cream, or anything that actually brings them joy
And then they wonder why they can’t stick to it?
The key is to set up a plan you actually enjoy. That way, you’re not battling your instincts or willpower every day
All it needs, is some strategy and some structure from you
Build Systems 🔨
Want to know the real cheat code? It’s not some supplement or fad diet
It’s creating a plan that works with your life, not against it
Willpower isn’t even part of the equation 👐
If you’re tired of spinning your wheels and ready to finally see progress, I can help. Coaching with me isn’t about restriction; it’s about structure, balance, and actually enjoying the process
Cheers,
